Preparation and Cooking Time
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 45 minutes
Servings: 2
Ingredients
50 ml whole milk
25g butter, sliced into small pieces
500g russet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
1 garlic clove, finely grated
salt and black pepper to taste
Toppings:
green onions, chopped
butter
Equipment
Medium Pot
Potato Masher
Directions
Step 1
In a medium pot, add the potatoes and cover with cold water, then sprinkle with salt. Bring to a boil over high heat.
Step 2
When it starts boiling, reduce the heat to a simmer and cook for about 15 minutes or until the potatoes are soft. Drain, then place it back in the pan to steam dry for about 3-5 minutes.
Step 3
Place the milk, butter, and garlic in a saucepan and warm over low heat. Using a potato masher, mash the potatoes for a lumpier mash.
Step 4
Add the warmed milk mixture, pepper, and salt into the bowl with the hot mashed potatoes. Use a wooden spatula to beat everything together until the mash is creamy and smooth and the butter is melted.
Step 5
Serve in bowls and garnish with chopped green onion and butter.
Recipe Notes
1. I recommend that you add 2 teaspoons of garlic powder if you prefer a stronger garlic flavor.
2. To achieve very creamy potatoes, use a hand masher or potato ricer. A food processor, stand mixer or hand mixer can also be used, but it will break down the starches in the potatoes and result in a gummy texture.
