Ingredients

¼ cup milk

½ cup marinara sauce

2 boneless chicken breasts

¼ cup parmesan cheese, grated

½ cup seasoned breadcrumbs

1 large egg

4 slices mozzarella cheese

3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, or as needed

½ teaspoon chopped fresh basil, for garnish

Cooked pasta, for serving

Equipment

Baking Dish

Skillet

Directions

Step 1

Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish lightly. Then preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.

Step 2

Place the chicken breast between two sheets of plastic wrap and pound gently with the flat side of a meat mallet to a thickness of ½ inch.

Step 3

Combine egg and milk in a medium bowl. In another shallow bowl, place the seasoned breadcrumbs.

Step 4

Dip the chicken breasts in the egg and milk mixture and then in the seasoned breadcrumbs, flipping each piece to be well coated.

Step 5

Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat until hot. Cook the chicken in the hot oil for about 2 minutes on both sides or until golden brown.

Step 6

In the bottom of the greased baking dish, Pour 1/4 cup of the marinara sauce. Place the browned chicken breasts over the sauce and top with an equal amount of mozzarella cheese.

Step 7

Top with the remaining sauce and drizzle the parmesan cheese on top. Bake in the oven for about 15-20 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown.

Step 8

Drizzle chopped fresh basil on the chicken and serve over the cooked spaghetti. Enjoy!

Recipe Notes

1. Store leftover chicken parmesan for about 4-5 days in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Before serving, reheat in an oven at 450 degrees until heated through.

2. Before using the seasoned breadcrumbs to dredge your chicken, taste it and if they are bland, add extra pepper, salt, Italian seasoning, or preferred seasoning to achieve more flavorful breadcrumbs.
