Homemade Bacon Fried Cabbage

Bacon Fried Cabbage is incredibly delicious, packed with flavor, and ready in just 25 minutes. Super easy to make with simple ingredients and is the perfect comfort food. It makes for a great side dish and is ideal for St.Patrick’s Day. Enjoy served with pot roast, corned beef, or meatloaf if desired.

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Total Time: 25 minutes

Ingredients

½ medium head green cabbage, cored and chopped

1 small yellow onion, diced

¼ teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

1 teaspoon light brown sugar

2 slices thick bacon, cut into ½ inch pieces

freshly chopped parsley, to serve


Directions


Step 1

Cook bacon in a large cast iron skillet for at least 5 minutes or until crisp. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and place it on a plate lined with a paper towel (leaving the liquid in the skillet).


Step 2

Add the onion to the skillet and stir. Increase the heat to medium-high and cook for 2-3 minutes or until translucent.


Step 3

Add the brown sugar and cabbage. then add ground black pepper and salt, and cook, stirring from time to time for 5 minutes or until the cabbage becomes soft.


Step 4

Put back the bacon in the skillet and toss to combine. Cook for about 1-2 minutes, then top with the freshly chopped parsley.


Recipe Notes

I used bacon for this recipe, however, you can replace the bacon with sausage. You can also use red cabbage for this recipe if you like.
